Y2M Weekly Update: 9th January - 12th January 2018

English	This week in English class, we began our unit on explanation texts. In this unit we will look at a variety of texts that seek to explain subjects that the students are interested in. This unit will also link to our new UOI unit “How the World Works.”	Next week in English class, we will review best practices for writing explanation texts and unpack the core components of these texts. We will also look at important grammar concepts that are present in explanation texts.
Maths	This week in Maths class, we learned about place value and ordering 2-digit numbers; place value additions and subtractions; add and begin to subtract 9, 10 and 11	Revise number bonds to 10; begin to bridge 10; subtract from 10 and 20; use number facts to find the complement to ten; find a difference between two numbers by counting on
Unit of Inquiry	How the World Works This  week in UOI, we introduced our new UOI unit, “How the World Works.” In this unit we will learn about how people use their understanding of force and energy to invent and create. .	How We Express Ourselves Next week in UOI, we will dig deeper into understanding about human forces such as push, pull, throw, drop, etc.
